Snow in Paynes Creek

It rained all the way from Red Bluff to Paynes Creek until I hit 3,000 feet and it snowed the rest of the way. Here is what it looked like on Highway 36 East before my turn-off on Canyon View Loop which is about seven miles from Mineral. My camera batteries ran low so I was unable to capture a picture of what it looked like on Canyon View Loop Road on which there was about three inches of snow. Sure was glad to make that stop and get back down the mountain (I didn't have chains nor did I have my wife's 4-wheel drive Tahoe). Don't know yet how my colleagues made out going North to Yreka, Northeast to Alturas, and Northwest to Weaverville where I'm sure it was much worse weather. We're in the midst of a very wet storm which they say will be pounding California for the next couple of weeks. (Just click on the picture for a larger view).
