The Platina Run

Highway 36w from Red Bluff to Platina is very scenic especially as it nears Springtime. The creek pictured (which I believe is either Dry Creek or the east fork of Cottonwood Creek) runs along or near the highway for miles. The creek is babbling along just fine now but toward Fall it will unfortunately dry up. Ranchers bring their cattle to this area right after the first rains come and round them up again in late Summer when the creek starts to run dry. As you can see these cattle are enjoying plenty of grass and water. (Just click on the picture for a larger view).

Another House of Worship

This tiny little country church is located on Highway 99w just a stones throw from the intersection of Gyle Road. I don't know if the address is Corning or Gerber as its located between the two towns. Please note its name "Shady Rest Full Gospel Church" with services on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Tree of Abandon Shoes

Yesterday I had two deliveries in Platina and on the way back I couldn't resist taking a couple more pictures of the Tree of Abandon Shoes. As you may recall from a previous post, this old Oak tree stands beside Highway 36 West between Red Bluff and Platina. What was missing from the tree, and to my surprise, was a pair of my own shoes (see third photo) that I hung there a month before. I would say that pair of shoes was my favorite as they have been around a long time and I walked in them all over southern Ireland when my wife and I visited her relatives there in 2005. Oh, well, someone is enjoying those shoes and I wonder where they are walking right now. (Just click on the pictures for larger views).

The Medicine Must Be Delivered

Last Friday I had one of my hardest routes. I must have delivered to every remote area imaginable on my route (345 miles total). This one was in Corning about as far out as you can get and still be in corning. The house sits on top of the hill and believe me I hesitated a long time before attempting to drive over this lake which covered the gravel road (the result of our latest rain storm). But I hugged the left side of the road and made it without problems. Coming back was just as scary. Of course the two black lab dogs were waiting for me and the biscuit they always expect and get. This Must Be Swan Lake

I got these shots from Gyle Road just off Interstate 5 in Corning. Its a very small Lake for so many white swans. Before I got out of my van they all had their heads down in the water. As soon as I got out they all raised their heads as if to say "cheeeese". I've never seen this many swans before. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).

The Veterans Cemetery in Igo

I had a delivery in Igo today and when I passed the Veterans Cometery I couldn't resist these shots. The first picture shows some grave sites. The second and third pictures shows the views from the cemetery. The forth picture is the monument you see as your enter the cemetery. Most likely Kathy and I will have our ashes placed here when the time comes. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).
