She's Still Making Her Rounds

She is a familiar figure around Red Bluff as she makes her daily rounds. And she's still pushing that metal shopping cart and handling three dogs on leashes. Bless her heart for she is devoted. (Just click on the picture for a larger view).

Does It Snow In Cottonwood?

The answer is "occasionally" and this was that one "occasional" day about a month ago. When I got home there was snow on the streets and driveways throughout Lake California. This is what I saw from our deck to the back yard. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).

The Highway To Mineral

Recently I had stops in both Paynes Creek and Mineral. The picture you see was taken at about 2500 feet on Highway 36 East just outside Paynes Creek. Mineral will be another 18 miles further and about 2000 feet higher. On this clear and beautiful day you are seeing Mt Lassen. (Just click on the picture for a larger view).

Another View of Mt Shasta

Traveling north on I-5 at the Sunset Hills exit, this is the view you see of Mt Shasta. There is plenty of snow now but with these warm Spring days and no rain in sight it won't take long to melt all that snow. The next exit is Bowman Road the turn-off to Lake California and home. The Tree of Abandoned Shoes

If you travel west along highway 36 from Red Bluff to Platina you can't help but notice this oak tree decorated with abandoned shoes. I've passed it many times making a delivery to the Wild Horse Ranch or the Russian Monastery or to other recipients in Platina. But this was the first time I decided to capture it on film. Just who started this or when it got started is unknown to me, but from the looks of some of the shoes it was more than a few years ago. It was getting late in the evening so the pictures came out a little dark. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).

The View From Wildcat Road

These two shots were taken atop Wildcat Road today when I made a delivery to the Darrah Springs Fish Hatchery in Paynes Creek. The snow capped mountain in the background is Mt. Lassen. It was a beautiful Spring day. Made me feel like going fishing which I have neglected for too long. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).
