Dale is Ready to Go

Here is my colleague and friend, Dale, as he gets ready to head for the high country (handsome dude, isn't he). Today he goes to the mountainous areas of Burney Falls and Alturas. Dale has his own Blog and he got me started on mine. He creates some neat posts that you can see on this link http://stoneroads.blogspot.com/ . And Yes! that is a garden hoe he is holding. He uses it to move the packages from the front to the back (pretty clever). (Just click on the picture for a larger view).

The Tehama County Jail

This 1884 Jailhouse rests in the sleepy little community of Tehama. Its not very large maybe only 20x30 feet but it looks like it served it purpose. The community of Tehama holds a lot of history and this old jailhouse is just part of it. (Click on the pictures for a larger view).

The Long Horn Cattle Ranch

This ranch lies off Round Mountain Road about 9 miles beyond the community of Paskenta and I make a delivery here about once per week. The long horn cattle you see are not for beef but are raised as show cattle. At least that is what I was told by one of the workers on this ranch. They are simple beautiful to look at. Roundup on Wildcat Road

Yesterday when I was coming back from a delivery on Wildcat Road in Paynes Creek, I had to stop and take a couple pictures of these cowboys rounding up some cattle. Its Springtime so I'll probably start seeing a lot of cattle roundups along my route. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).

Country Stores I have Known

It seems that every small community has a little country store. And inside you will find a variety of things from groceries to videos. About the only thing you won't find is an unfriendly owner or store keeper. These folks are the friendliest people you can meet and usually know all there is to know about the community. I have sought their help many times in locating a hard to find delivery address. The stores pictured here are the ones in the small communities of Paynes Creek, Flournoy, Igo, Ono, Rancho Tehama, and Mineral. Thank goodness for Country Stores. The Dusty Gravel Roads of Cottonwood

My travels take me over many dusty gravel and dirt roads but I think that urban Cottonwood has the most. Here are pictures of two of those roads. They don't look that bad from a distance, but close up there's one pot hole after another. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).

The Last Days of Winter On Wildcat Road

I couldn't resist taking these pictures of snowflakes hitting my windshield when I recently traveled Wildcat Road in Paynes Creek. And it should be the last snowflakes for that area as Spring has definitely arrived. (Just click on the pictures for a larger view).
